Overview

The Fred Beans Ford dealership in Washington, NJ, underwent an interior commercial renovation focused on transforming dated customer areas and employee workspaces into a refreshed, modern environment. With extensive experience completing phased car dealership construction and renovation projects, our construction team was well-prepared to tackle the unique challenges of renovating an active showroom and service department while the dealership remained open for business.

Working closely with the Fred Beans team, we developed a construction approach that allowed normal business operations to continue throughout the renovation while creating an updated facility that both customers and employees could enjoy.

Project Scope

The renovation revamped approximately 9,400 square feet of space throughout the dealership, including the showroom, office spaces, reception area, customer lounge, employee break area, service drive-thru, service writer department, and retail parts area.

The objective was to modernize the dealership with updated finishes and amenities while improving the overall environment for customers and employees. New finishes throughout the facility included LED lighting, vibrant paint colors, wood accents, durable ceramic tile flooring, refreshed restrooms, and updated customer and employee areas.

This work was completed through the implementation of a carefully coordinated phased construction plan and commercial construction management approach. By strategically sequencing the renovation, our team was able to minimize disruption and allow the dealership and service department to remain operational throughout construction. Our services included preconstruction estimating, construction project management, demolition, construction, finishes, and furniture coordination.

Challenges

One of the primary challenges of the renovation was completing extensive work throughout the showroom and service department while allowing Fred Beans Ford to continue serving customers during normal business hours.

Renovating a commercial building that remains open for business requires careful planning, particularly in an active dealership, as construction activities must be coordinated around customer traffic, vehicle movement, employee work areas, and ongoing service operations.

To address these challenges, our team worked closely with Fred Beans management and project subcontractors to develop and maintain a phased construction schedule allowing daily dealership and service operations to continue with minimal interruption.

Our experience completing occupied dealership renovations proved especially valuable throughout this process, allowing the team to anticipate potential conflicts and adjust construction activities as needed to keep the project moving efficiently.

Solutions

As the general contractor for the renovation, our team coordinated subcontractors, construction activities, finishes, and project phasing to deliver a cohesive renovation while maintaining dealership operations.

Key improvements included:

Showroom & Customer Areas

Updated LED lighting – New LED lighting brightened the showroom and customer areas while creating a cleaner, more contemporary appearance.

Durable flooring – New ceramic tile flooring provided an attractive and durable finish designed to withstand the demands of a high-traffic dealership environment.

Modern finishes – Vibrant paint colors, wood accents, and updated interior finishes transformed the previously dated showroom into a more inviting and contemporary space.

Customer lounge improvements – The customer lounge was refreshed to provide a more comfortable and welcoming environment for visitors waiting for vehicle sales or service.

Office & Employee Areas

The renovation extended beyond customer-facing spaces to improve the working environment for Fred Beans employees. Office spaces, reception areas, and the employee break area received updated finishes that created a brighter and more cohesive appearance throughout the facility.

Service Department

Improvements to the service drive-thru and service writer department created an updated environment that better connects the service experience with the newly renovated customer-facing areas of the dealership.

Results

The completed renovation transformed the Fred Beans Ford dealership from a dated facility into a bright, modern environment for customers and employees. New LED lighting, vibrant paint colors, wood accents, durable ceramic tile flooring, refreshed restrooms, and updated customer areas provide a cohesive contemporary appearance throughout the showroom and service department.

The result is a refreshed showroom and service facility that provides a more welcoming customer experience, an improved working environment for employees, and an updated space that better represents the Fred Beans Ford brand.
