Objective:
Turn a dated, cramped, mismatched office space in Doylestown into a beautiful state-of-the-art work environment.
Challenges:
1. Perform construction work while the building was occupied.
2. Fit additional storage into existing office space.
3. Add state of the art equipment for a more functional workspace.
Our customer was looking to update their office space and make it more user friendly. Their space was dated and had mismatched furniture and desks. Souder Brothers got involved from the very beginning of the project with drawing the floor plans, finalizing the space planning, and performing the commercial construction work as a true one-stop shop.
This commercial renovation in Doylestown was performed in stages as the business remained open during construction. We worked with the client to relocate people while different phases were completed. Souder Brothers provided a very detailed construction schedule so the customer always knew what would be happening and in what area.
To make the space feel larger, we added height to the area by removing the existing drop ceiling and the painting the exposed bar joists and metal deck. New skylights were added to replace existing and were tinted to avoid sun glare on employee computers. In addition to the natural light from the skylights, LED lights were installed to cut down on energy costs. These specific fixtures hang from the exposed ceiling and put off 15% up-lighting and 85% down-lighting giving the office a great ambiance.
In an effort to give the customer more storage we utilized all wall space for upper cabinets which allowed us to gain more storage space within the same square footage area. Cubicles were designed to be smaller as electronics have evolved and large computers that take up a lot of space are no longer needed. Details like half-round cut outs in the desk tops and sliding printer drawers give employees a more comfortable work space.
Large glass windows were added to perimeter offices to allow for visibility into the shared cubicle space, and also to create a more open environment. New finishes were added throughout to provide a clean, updated, modern look.
