3 Tips for Making Your Renovation Stress Free

If you’re putting off a commercial renovation project because you are unsure of where to start or afraid to disrupt your work environment, you are not alone. A commercial remodel project is a big undertaking. We’ve compiled some tips on what you can do to make your renovation as stress free as possible!

1. Implement a plan, don’t make rushed decisions

If you go into a renovation project without a clear plan, you’re inviting disaster into your workplace. This is not a time to be making decisions based on a whim. Proper planning is crucial to the success of a commercial renovation project. Inevitably there will be decisions to be made that come up during the construction phase, but making as many decisions prior to starting as you possibly can will help your project to run smoother. Part of your planning phase should be developing a phasing plan and construction schedule.

2. Develop a realistic timeline

As we mentioned under tip 1 – a construction schedule is a very important part of any renovation project. Without a clear timeline, your project can drag on. Your general contractor should create a detailed construction schedule outlining every task that will be completed during your project. A schedule also allows for long lead items to be ordered in accordance with your schedule to make sure they are available by the time they are needed.

3. Select the right contractor

How do you know if you’ve found the right contractor for your project? Trust your gut feeling, but also do your research and check references. Ask your potential contractor if you can visit one of their past or current job sites. This will give you a real idea of the quality of their work, as well as how neat and orderly they keep a job site. If they are going to be working in your place of business this is something important for you to check out. You need to feel comfortable with your selected contractor and know that you can trust them. You’ll be working with them for an extended period of time so while you don’t have to become their best friend, it is important that your personalities mesh and you are able to work together.
